Biometrics News Roundup: Specifications, Mobility and 40 Years of Fingerprinting

FindBiometrics, Identity Managment, Biometric TechnologyThis past week at FindBiometrics we took a look back on 2014’s most informative news items in our featured articles section while identity management history continued to be built. News ranging from successes in consortia, to the biometric border control and even some talk about the Internet of Things kept the industry discussions strong as we quickly approach year’s end.

Here are the big stories of the week:

This week, the FIDO Alliance published the final 1.0 drafts of its UAF and U2F specifications for strong online authentication. It was a major industry milestone, and one met with proclamations of the true death of the password. Nok Nok Labs, a founding Alliance member, made a statement in support and also updated us on an impressive series C round of funding.

Meanwhile, Fujitsu scored Lenel Certification for its Palm Entry readers, which use vascular biometrics for physical access.

Even as we started to look back on 2014, the past week saw plenty of activity in the verticals. We had news about Iris ID’s new role in voter registration, a pilot project in Baltimore banking and border control solutions in Jamaica. Hitachi also made the news with its high throughput finger-vein technology and we saw an app that leverages Touch ID to help doctors access health records on their mobile devices.
